Your plant layout is determine by the height of the vegetables you select and the orientation of your garden according to the sun rise and sun set. Larger vegetables are placed in the north and the west, while medium vegetables toward the center and smallest to the south east. This is done so larger vegetables do not shade out shorter vegetables. If you have many garden beds, and would like to allocate that whole bed to one specific crop, you can certainly change our recommendation and do that.

Yes, if you receive an error "You live in a frost free zone, at this time we are unable to plan a garden schedule for you.when entering your USA zipcode, you may manually enter the last expected frost date of January 30th, this can be a good date for planning purposes in Zone 10A. Luckily, you have a lot of freedom with a long growing season in your area!

Plan My Garden does not have knowledge of past season placements so does not do crop rotations. However, the purpose of crop rotation is to avoid soil depletion. If you're using organic methods and if the beds are generously amended with nutrient-rich, organic compost every year, there will be no need for crop rotation.

Plan My Garden focused on plant placement based on plant height, in relation to the sun, and spacing according to plant size. Undoubtedly, plants influence each other. There are many claims on the internet and charts, however, because there is little science behind the concept of companion planting, it can be difficult to really know what works well in your garden. We recommend focusing on soil health by amending the soil with organic compost every season, mulching with organic matter, and focusing on diversity in the garden. This is what we have done for years with excellent results. Here are two excellent links discussing the thorny subject of companion planting.
